Root Maintenance
Stem girdling roots is an often overlooked problem with trees. Girdling roots grow around the trunk of a tree restricting and cutting off the flow of water and nutrients.
Common symptoms:
- No visible root flare at soil surface
- Trunk may be flattened on one side
- Undersize leaves, thin canopy and scorched leaves
- Early fall color or leaf drop
- Dieback in the crown
- Excessive mulch can build up too much organic matter and soil around the trunk leading to problems
